Nungwi or Kendwa: which beach should you choose?

They are neighbours on the same north-west coast, a short walk apart along the sand. Both get the sunset over the sea. The differences are the tide, the swimming and the mood.

The tide

Nungwi has a strong tide: at low tide the water pulls far back in places. Kendwa is known for being much less affected, so you can swim at almost any hour.

The atmosphere

Nungwi is a real village with a busy beach, restaurants and bars along the sand. Kendwa is quieter and more spread out, with a famous monthly beach party around the full moon.

Sunsets and boat trips

Both face west, so both have the sunset over the water. Most boat trips leave from Nungwi; on ANELIS we also pick up guests staying in Kendwa.

Our honest answer

Families who want to swim all day often prefer Kendwa. Couples and friends who want a lively evening and the village often prefer Nungwi. Either way, the best of this coast is out on the water.
