Where they are
The south of the island, around Kizimkazi, is famous for dolphin trips and often very crowded. In the north, dolphins are sometimes seen on the way to Mnemba Atoll, especially in the morning.
What a good crew does
Keeps a calm distance, never drives into the group, never cuts them off, and leaves if they move away. If they stay near the boat, guests may slip quietly into the water, without splashing or chasing.

Why we never promise them
They are wild animals. Any trip that guarantees dolphins is usually one that chases them. Some mornings they come to the bow; some mornings the reef is the whole show.
How to make it more likely
Go early, when the sea is calm and there are fewer boats. A private boat helps: no schedule to keep, so we can wait quietly instead of racing to the next stop.
Questions
Is swimming with dolphins in Zanzibar ethical?
It can be, if the boat keeps its distance and the dolphins choose to stay. It is not if boats chase them or surround them.
When is the best time to see dolphins?
Early morning, on a calm day. We combine it with snorkelling at Mnemba so the day is good either way.
