Mnemba Atoll is the reef everyone in Zanzibar talks about: clear water, coral gardens and big schools of fish a few metres below the surface. Most boats go there packed with thirty people at the same hour. On ANELIS it is only your group, we leave early when the sea is calmest, and we stay at the spots you like for as long as you like.
The day, step by step
- 08:00Departure from Nungwi beach. Coffee and fruit on deck.
- 09:15We look for dolphins on the way. Some mornings they come to the bow, some mornings they do not.
- 10:00First snorkel stop on the Mnemba reef. Masks and fins on board.
- 11:30Second stop, a swim, lunch on board if you chose it, then back to Nungwi.

Good to know
- The Mnemba marine conservation fee is not included: it is charged per person by the reserve. We tell you the current amount when you book.
- Dolphins are wild. We look for them, we never chase them, and we cannot promise them.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a T-shirt for snorkelling: the equatorial sun burns fast on the water.
Questions
How long is the boat ride from Nungwi to Mnemba?
Roughly an hour each way, depending on the sea. That is why we leave at 8:00: the water is calmer and the reef is quieter in the morning.
Do we need to be good swimmers?
No. Life jackets and snorkels mean anyone who is comfortable in water can float over the reef. The crew stays with beginners.
How much is a private Mnemba trip?
$250 for the whole boat, private, for 5 hours, up to 16 people. The marine park conservation fee is paid separately, per person.
